Poldra Geodesic Landmark
From 09:30 to 16:30
A circular route through the Espinhaço de Cão mountain range, along old paths and rural tracks, starting on the Via Algarviana and heading north towards Pedra Branca and the Pedra do Galo menhir. Continuing north, you pass the wind farm, Vale de Coelhos and head towards Corte de Pero Jaques, towards one of the highest points in the mountains, the Poldra geodesic landmark (248 m), hidden and abandoned in the middle of the vegetation. Then it's on to the EN120, where the Mercearia da Serra is located, where a stop is planned. On the way back, next to the electricity substation, you'll see a magnificent panoramic view and continue through the mountains on other paths until you reach Barão São João again. Along the way, you'll see stunning landscapes typical of the Algarve mountains, characterised by a succession of hills and valleys covered in cistus, strawberry trees, cork oaks and pine trees, which contrast with the wind generators.
NOTE: Bring comfortable walking clothes and good walking shoes, a rucksack with water and a snack, and a hat and windbreaker. The use of walking poles is recommended.
How to get there
By car: Arriving in the city of Lagos, at the Municipal Stadium roundabout, head towards Bensafrim. João, and after entering the village of Barão de São João you should follow the signs that indicate the Mata Nacional. The Cultural Center is located just before the forest entrance on the left.
