Barão de São João to Pedralva
From 09:30 to 16:30
A circular route through the Espinhaço de Cão mountain range, along old paths and rural tracks, starting at the Barão São João woods and heading north towards Vinha Velha. Continuing north, towards the mountains, we'll follow a wilder and rougher area, made up of hills and valleys, with some water lines and vegetation, until we reach the village of Pedralva, where a stop is planned. The return journey follows the Via Algarviana until, near Vilarinha, the route reverses through the valley of the Ribeira da Carrapateira, heading east and south along other paths until it reaches Barão São João again. Along the way, you can see stunning landscapes typical of the Algarve mountains, characterised by a succession of hills and valleys, covered in cistus, strawberry trees, cork oaks, pine trees and eucalyptus, which contrast with the wind generators.
NOTE: Bring comfortable walking clothes and good walking shoes, a rucksack with water and a snack, and a hat and windbreaker. The use of walking poles is recommended.
How to get there
By car: Arriving in the city of Lagos, at the Municipal Stadium roundabout, head towards Bensafrim. At Portelas exit, take the EM 531 on the left towards Barão de São João, passing through the Monte Judeu site. Go straight ahead towards Barão de S. João, and after entering the village of Barão de São João you should follow the signs that indicate the Mata Nacional. The Cultural Center is located just before the forest entrance on the left.
