Barão de São João - on the trails of History and spirituality

The beautiful village of Barão de São is an integral part of the interior of the municipality of Lagos, and it has its identity and significance in local history. This activity invites participants to explore its history, the cults associated with individual and collective spirituality, and have a glimpse into art. After all, discovering this village is also discovering ourselves and the environment we find ourselves in.
How to get there
From the Cultural Center (550m): On foot, exiting from the event’s reception (Cultural Center), go downwards (south) along the road “Estrada da Mata Nacional” for about 300 meters. Turn left “Jacques Favre Castelo Branco” street, passing by the Municipal Market, following the road until its end (150m), reaching the street “Capitão Francisco da Silva Rijo”. Turn right and walk 100m.
From Lagos: Arriving in the city of Lagos, at the Municipal Stadium roundabout, head towards Bensafrim. At the exit of Portelas, take the EM 531 on the left, towards Barão de São João, passing by Monte Judeu. Keep going straight ahead, towards Barão de S. João. Once within Barão de São João, keep straight, bearing right towards “Bensafrim”, going around the Church. You can park at the exit to the village, in a parking lot on the right, behind the church and cemetery, and walk the rest of the way.
