The Barão de São João forest is a protected forest area, part of the Natura 2000 – Costa Sudoeste (Habitats Directive). This area goes far beyond the forest: it is home to temporary ponds and Mediterranean scrubland, forming a mosaic of habitats rich in biodiversity. Plants, insects and birds coexist here. Located on an important migratory corridor, during autumn (September to November) it is possible to observe some species of gliding birds. Exploring this ecosystem is more than just a walk – it is an invitation to discovery and conservation. Getting to know the living beings that inhabit this place is essential to protecting them. Bring your family, friends, or come alone: this adventure is for all ages.
