Ana Canto

Maputo (Mozambique), 1962.
In the 70's, she fell in love with ceramics and at the age of 13, she began her career as a ceramic painter at Galeria San Lucas, by Pintor Júlio Amaro, in Portimão. In the 1980s, she took the Traditional Pottery Course in Lagoa with the master Fernando Rodrigues, finished the IADE Ceramics Course in Lisbon, participated in the ARCO Workshop with potters A. Zimmerman, Patrick Longhram, Nancy Smith and Christopher Gustin and works as Oleira in Pátio Alfacinha. In the 90's, she won two District Prizes of the National Handicraft Contest and participated in the Inaugural Collective Exhibition of the Lagos Cultural Center. Between 2005/07 she teached ceramics at the Lagos Council. Since 2010, she has participated in the "Evolution" project of Quinta dos Vales (Lagoa), carrying out several works. She continues to deepen her work and to participate in collective exhibitions. She is co-author and participates in the seasonal project of artists, Pátio Azul in Lagos.
