Screening of the documentary "To Make a Living" - Stories of Women's Work Life"
To Make a Living - Stories of Women's working Life is a collaborative film by Patricia Leal and Vera Abreu resulting from an oral history project. Inspired by the book "As Mulheres do Meu País" by Maria Lamas, published between 1948 and 1950, this ethnographic work contributes 'to save' the living memories of an ageing population of of Vila do Bispo focusing on women. These, despite being commonly described as housewives, in reality actively participated in the agricultural and fishing activities i.e. the main economic activities of the municipality. The collection of these stories proves to be of pressing importance insofar as this is a disappearing group that will take with them a whole collection of memories and intangible heritage that is important to collect.
